FAQ’s

Yes. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) (29 CFR 1910.134) requires respirator users to be fit tested to assure the fit of any respirator that forms a tight seal on the face before it is used in the work place. This test must be performed initially before the employee is required to wear the respirator and repeated at least annually. The test is for the employees safety.

No. Respirators should not be worn when conditions prevent a good face seal. The only acceptable facial hair are small, neatly trimmed mustaches or beards bordering only the mouth of the employee. Any and all facial hair under the chin or cheeks is prohibited for wearing an N95. Candidates must be clean shaven within 16 hours as per the CSA Standards in order to be fit tested.

From start to finish the testing process takes about 20 minutes.

Bitrex, also known as Denatonium Benzoate, is used to test the respirator wearer to a bitter solution. It is a harmless agent that makes a product taste bad to discourage people from eating it.

Saccharin, also known as Saccharine or Benzosulfimide, is a non-nutritive artificial sweetener.
